How to consult a website - Moving from one web page to another
A website often has different web pages linked to each other.
In order to move within the website, in addition to the buttons and internal links of the page, there are some standard buttons in the browser command bar.
Your browser command bar (the one at the top of the window) contains four important tools needed to surf the net:
- Back/previous page: clicking the button allows you to go back to the page that you just came from.
- Forward/next page: by clicking the button it is possible to display the next page (of course it works only when you go back to the previous page with the other command, the other way round doesn’t work)
- refresh/reload button: by clicking the button the current web page will be reloaded and displayed again (you can use it when there are mistakes or you think that the page is not the current one).
- stop button: clicking the button will stop the page from being loaded.
When a web page is wider and longer than the browser window, you can use the scroll bars to quickly move from one side to another. The scroll bar appears on the right of the browser window (see the yellow arrows in the picture).
Scroll bars let you scroll up and down or from left to right.
To see how they work, click on the button at the right top of the browser window (in becomes smaller), place your arrow cursor in the scroll bar and scroll up and down .
The page content moves, showing more parts of the window.
To get to this stage, you must have already used the scroll bars or the mouse scroll wheel which has the same function.
In this way it lets you read the whole text which seemed hidden at the bottom.
